Racing History

In 2005, a group of people with a disability and other interested people met to discuss the possibilty of forming an association to enable them, and others, to sail/compete in keel boats (yachts) on equal terms. This was the beginning and formation of the not for profit charitable community organisation, Dis-Able Sailing Inc.

Our yacht "FREEDOM", a Payne 7.4 metre daysailer, was purchased from the Gold Coast Sailability group, on the recommendation from Phil Vardy, in August 2008.

From September 2008 to August 2009 "FREEDOM" was based at the Cruising Yacht Club of South Australia. During that period the yacht participated in many Twilight and Winter series races, with a mixture of disable and able bodied crew members, with varying results.

  • 4th - Twilight Series 1
  • 4th - Twilight Series 2
  • 2nd overall in combined Twilight Series
  • 3rd - Winter Series, division 2 PHS CYCSA, with 1 race win
  • 5th - Winter Series, division 2 PHS combined CYCSA & RSAYS, with 1 race win
